  • Horses are evaluated using a disciplined process that considers:

    • Pedigree and genetic profile

    • Physical conformation and athleticism

    • Racing potential within the New York circuit

    • Value relative to market opportunity

Final selections are made in collaboration with experienced horsemen and professional trainers.

  • NYRA consistently provides some of the highest purses in North America, especially within state-bred programs.

    Benefits include:

    • Elevated purses for New York-bred races

    • Restricted NY-bred stakes with less competition than open company

    • Large fields and consistent racing opportunities

    • High visibility at Saratoga, Belmont Park, and Aqueduct

This means NY-breds often run for more money against fewer competitors.

New York’s breeding and racing programs provide multiple financial incentives beyond purse earnings:

    • Owner awards

    • Breeder awards

    • Stallion and mare incentive programs

    • Residency bonuses

    • Starter and placement awards

These programs significantly increase total returns per start compared to most other states.

  • Wadhams Thoroughbred Racing primarily competes on the New York Racing Association (NYRA) circuit, including:

    • Saratoga Race Course

    • Belmont Park

Horses may also ship to select regional tracks when strategically appropriate.

  • Purse earnings are distributed according to industry standards:

All distributions are handled transparently and documented.

  • Short answer, Yes. However racehorse ownership should be viewed primarily as a sporting and experiential pursuit, not a guaranteed financial investment. While earnings are possible, outcomes vary, and there is inherent risk. Participants should only commit funds they are comfortable allocating to a lifestyle and entertainment experience.

  • Initial buy in depends on the valuation and % amount of the racehorse.

After the initial buy in, generally speaking; a 5% stake on a racehorse costs about $3,400 per year. However costs can vary depending on unexpected veterinarian/blacksmith/farrier fees etc:

At WTR, all costs are clearly disclosed prior to participation, and ownership is structured to remain accessible while maintaining professional standards.

  • Ownership typically continues for the racing career of the horse. Decisions regarding continued racing, sale, or retirement are made in the best interest of the horse and ownership group.

  • Upon retirement, options may include:

    • Sale

    • Breeding (when applicable)

    • Retirement to a suitable aftercare program

All decisions prioritize the horse’s welfare and are communicated clearly to ownership.

  • Wadhams Thoroughbred Racing operates independently but competes under NYRA rules and regulations, maintaining full compliance with all racing and ownership requirements.
